We flew overnight from Houston, Texas to Sydney Australia on a 787 Dreamliner in United Airlines Polaris Class. The flight to Sydney, although 17 hours long was really quite comfortable. The flight crew was friendly and accommodating. If you wish for the glory days of service and comfort from the Golden Age of Air Travel as exemplified by the Pan Am Clippers, give the United Polaris Class a try, I think you’ll like it. More about that later.
We spent the day in Sydney getting settled into our room and fighting off jet lag. We made a few different attempts at planning our day and decided to begin with the Opera House. The Sydney Opera House was spectacular and I could understand why it was named a World Heritage Site but I was enchanted by the Harbor Bridge and spent the majority of the day and into the night trying to find a way to photograph it in a meaningful way. The view from the water with the Opera House in the foreground is the canonical way it is seen and I took a number of those photographs from a boat. It wasn’t until late at night, with my eyes nearly glued shut from fatigue, that the image below presented itself. I was so tired I almost resisted fishing my tripod out of my suitcase and taking the shot, but once I set it up I was suddenly full of energy. I hope you like it!
