I admit it, I’m a NASA nerd so when we went to Houston we had to go to the Johnson Space Center. Classic films like The Right Stuff, Apollo XIII, 2001 A Space Odyssey and more modern films like Interstellar and First Man are the stuff of dreams. They not only speak of exploration and discovery but of selfless heroism and sacrifice. When we walked into the Johnson Space Centers Apollo Mission Control, I couldn’t help but recall that the famous phrases “the Eagle as landed” and “Houston we have a problem” once echoed from these very walls .
The Saturn V rocket holds a special place in my heart. It is a magnificent, magical, mystic Unicorn. Only now, 50 years after a Saturn V first carried men to the moon has Space X reinvented the Moon rocket and created something that is it’s equal. One of my regrets is that I didn’t take the time to photograph the Saturn V at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida a few years ago, perhaps I’ll go back and remedy that mistake.
Here are a series of images I made of the Houston Saturn V, it is so beautiful. I hope you enjoy them.
